Directorate of Emergency Services Mission

On order, DES personnel provide emergency services, physical security, installation access control, and protection from criminal actions to the FSGA/HAAF community supporting public law, regulations, and the installation strategic plan.

WHEN TO DIAL 9-1-1

Anyone on Fort Stewart or Hunter should dial 9-1-1 to report any incident that requires immediate attention by Military Police, Fire, or EMS personnel.

Some examples are:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Fires
  • Vehicle Accidents
  • Suspicious vehicles, persons, or activities
  • Domestic violence
  • Shootings/Stabbings
  • Missing persons

If you are not sure if your situation is an actual emergency for 9-1-1, dial it anyways!

If you call 9-1-1 with an emergency that prevents you from speaking due to a medical issue or an imminent threat, tap on the handset of the phone when the telecommunicator answers. This tapping will indicate that someone is on the line and the telecommunicator can begin the process of responding to your emergency.

If you require TDD/TTY (Telephone Device for the Deaf/Text Telephone) services Fort Stewart/Hunter 9-1-1 is prepared for your call. If you call from a TTY strike any key other than the space bar to notify the answering person that you are on the line.

9-1-1 and Cell Phones … …What to expect.

Your cell phone will not always automatically send your current location information to the 9-1-1 call center. In fact, you may dial 9-1-1 on HAAF and receive Savannah’s 9-1-1 center and then be transferred to Ft. Stewart/HAAF 9-1-1. If you need to call 9-1-1 from your cell phone, first consider your safety. Pull over in a safe location, know your location (business name, highway and mile marker, the county or city you are in, etc.), and answer all of the telecommunicators questions.

Non-emergency Reporting

There are several non-emergency incidents that may require the attention of the Military Police, Fire, or EMS personnel. To report incidents such as this please call (912) 767-2822 Some of these are:

  • Larceny/Theft (Not in Progress)
  • Loud music reports
  • Military Police reports for insurance purposes.
  • Stray/Loose/Barking dogs or cats
  • Parking violations

When you should not call 9-1-1

You and your family should also know when not to call 9-1-1. Some examples are:

  • To find out the current weather conditions.
  • Drivers’ license or registration information.
  • To find out when the power will be back on.
  • Playing with the telephone.
