Colonel Jason A. Wolter, a native of Elgin, Illinois, was commissioned as an armor officer in 1994 after graduating from the US Military Academy (USMA).
His assignments include Tank Platoon Leader and Scout Platoon Leader in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, CO; Troop Commander for B Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment in Schweinfurt, Germany; Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division in Wurzburg, Germany; Associate Professor for the Systems Engineering Department at USMA; Deputy Chief for Operations in Afghanistan; the S3 Operations Officer for the 1-33rd Cavalry Regiment, 101st Abn Division in South East Baghdad, Iraq; and a Brigade Operations Officer for 3rd BCT 101st Abn Division Ft. Campbell, KY and in Afghanistan. Colonel Wolter also served as a Joint Staff Warfighting Observer/Trainer and the Battalion Commander for 1-63rd Combined Arms Battalion in the 1st Infantry Division, Ft. Riley, KS. Most recently, he served as a Senior Military Advisor to the United Nations Mission in Libya.
Colonel Wolter’s deployments include Macedonia and Kosovo with the 1st Infantry Division; multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan with the 101st Abn Division; a deployment to East Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and a deployment to Tunisia and Libya in North Africa.
Colonel Wolter’s training includes the Armor Officer Basic Course; the Field Artillery Officer Advance Course; Command and General Staff College; ArmyWar College; Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger Schools. He holds a B.S. in Engineering Management from USMA, a Masters in Engineering from Northwestern University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (third award), Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Airborne Wings.
