197th Military Police Detachment
Mission: Provides technical supervision, planning, employment, and coordination of support for police operations. Provides the administrative and technical expertise to operate forward military police law enforcement activities in support of a combatant commander and integrates police intelligence operations into all military police missions.
Constituted 23 October 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 197th Militrary Police Patoon.
Activated 25 November 1943 at Santa Lucia, British West Indes.
Reorganized and redesigned 1 November 1944 as the 197th Military Police Company.
Reorganized and redesigned 28 February 1946 as the 197th Military Police Guard Platoon.
Inactivated 3 June 1946 at Santa Lucia, British West Indes.
Redesigned 21 March 1952 as the 197th Military Police Guardhouse and Stockade Detachment, allotted to the Regular Army, and activated at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Reorganized 1 October 1954 as the 197th Military Police Detachment.
Inactivated 1 October 1978 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Activated 16 October 2012 at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
