Many times after a loved one is lost, there are unresolved issues or questions that surface months or years later. The Army, in its dedication to providing support services to its Surviving Families, created Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) and welcomes Families of the Fallen to be a part of the Army Family for as long as they desire.
SOS connects Survivors with local support services that include but are not limited to grief counseling, financial counseling, benefits coordination, support groups, and Garrison and surrounding area events.
Located at Fort Stewart, the SOS team is comprised of two Support Coordinators and one Financial Counselor who serve the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield communities.
Cheryl Sowell, SOS Support Coordinator
Support Coordinators function as liaisons between Survivors and the Army services that they are eligible to receive. Support Coordinators also facilitate support groups, offer workshops, and make referrals to other Army services as needed.
Meghan Page, SOS Financial Counselor
The Financial Counselor’s mission is to provide information, education and referrals to Surviving Family Members in a one-on-one or group counseling setting. Some of the services that they provide include spending plan development, credit management, financial counseling, and referrals for legal assistance and estate planning. The SOS Financial Counselors are Accredited Financial Counselors.
