CSM Kirkover was born and raised in Nebraska. He is married and has five children.
He enlisted in the Army in 1982 and has served twice in the 101st Airborne Division, the 172nd Light Infantry Brigade, (Ft Wainwright, AK), the 25th Light Infantry Division (HI), the Ranger Training Brigade at 4th and later 5th Battalion, and twice with the 82nd Airborne Division.
His deployments include Sinai, Egypt for the Multinational Force and Observer (MFO) Peace Keeping Mission in 1983 with the 101st and again in 1994 with the 25th ID; Afghanistan for OEF (2002-2003) and twice to Iraq ISO OIF (2003-2004)(2007-2008) with the 82 ABN DIV.
He has served the Army in the following positions: Rifleman, RTO, Sniper, Rifle Team Leader, Scout Team Leader, Rifle Squad Leader, Scout Squad Leader, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Scout Platoon Sergeant, Ranger Instructor, Platoon Trainer, FTX NCOIC, Operations Sergeant, 1SG, Battalion Operations Sergeant Major, Brigade Operations Sergeant Major, Division Operations Sergeant Major and Battalion Command Sergeant Major
He has graduated from the following military schools: PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, USASMA, Ranger, Airborne, Air Assault, Pathfinder, Jump Master, Rappel Master.
He has earned the following awards / Ribbons: CIB, EIB, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, German Parachutist Badge, Canadian Parachutist Badge, BSM w/3 OLC, MSM w/ 5 OLC, ARCOM, AAM w/8 OLC, the VUA, the MUC, National Defense Service Medal 2nd Award, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, GWOT Expedition Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, GWOT Service Medal, NCOPDR 4th Award, Overseas Service Ribbon x 2, MFO Medal x 2, and The Order of St Maurice (OSM).
