Colonel John D. Kline
3rd Combat Aviation Brigade
Colonel John D. Kline graduated from Shippensburg University’s ROTC program in 1992 receiving his commission a an field artillery officer. After completing the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was assigned to the 4th ID at Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as an infantry company fire support officer and later an MLRS platoon leader. In 1995, he transferred from the field artillery to aviation and graduated from flight school and the Aviation Officer Basic Course in 1996 as an UH-60 rated aviator.
COL Kline has served in a variety of conventional aviation assignments that include: S2, 164th Air Traffic Services, Yongsan, Korea (1996-1997); G3 Aviation Officer, HQ, V Corps, Heidelberg, Germany (1998-1999); Company Flight Operations Officer, C/158th AVN (1999-2000); Battalion Assistant S3, 5-158 AVN (2000-2001); Commander, A/5-158 AVN, Giebelstadt, Germany (2001-2002); AC/RC Aviation Team Chief, 3-312th Training Support, Fort Meade, MD (2002-2003); Battalion S3 and XO, 5-101 AVN, Fort Campbell, KY and OIF IV (2004-2006); Brigade XO, 101st CAB, Fort Campbell, KY (2006-2008); Brigade Deputy Commander, 101st CAB, OEF VIII (2008); Battalion Commander, Task Force Eagle Assault (5-101 AVN), Fort Campbell and OEF X-XI (2009-2011) and G3, Brigade Modernization Command, Fort Bliss, TX (2011-2012).
He is a rated Master Aviator and has earned the Combat Action Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Airborne Badge. He holds masters degrees in Administration from Central Michigan University and National Security/Strategic Studies from the Air War College. His awards are typical for his time in service including three combat deployments.
